Education in Alberta
Alberta, Canada is full of opportunities for those who wish to further their education. In Alberta, there are four basic levels of education:
Early childhood services and kindergarten
This level of education takes place before a child enters Grade 1. In Alberta, a child does not have to receive this level of education.
Elementary
This level of education takes place for a child who attends Grade 1 to Grade 6. By law, all children in Alberta must receive this level of education.
Secondary
This level of education covers the Junior High School (Grades 7 to 9) and High School (Grades 10 to 12) years. By law, all children in Alberta must receive this level of education.
Post-secondary and continuing
This level covers education at a recognized College, University or Technical Institute, as well as adult education programs in the years after high school graduation. Those living in Alberta can choose whether or not they want this level of education.
Education in Alberta is provided free of charge for children attending school from Grade 1 to Grade 12. For those who wish to continue their education after Grade 12, the Government of Alberta offers financial assistance programs to students who need help to pay for their classes.
