Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

International graduate category steps

The Employer and Worker Application for a Skilled Occupation (ABPNP 005) and the Application for Provincial Nomination (ABPNP 003) are the only applications required to apply in the International Graduate Category of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).

These applications must be submitted together for the AINP to perform a full assessment. Candidates must also include a photocopy of their completed permanent residence application forms.

To apply to the Alberta PNP under the International Graduate Category, the steps are as follows:

  1. Candidate graduates from a Canadian post-secondary institution or from certain private post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Candidate applies for a post-graduate work permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

  2. Candidate obtains employment with an Alberta employer, who offers the candidate permanent, full-time employment.

  3. Employer must ensure that the offer of employment meets the criteria of Employer Eligibility - International Graduate category prior to applying to the AINP.

  4. Candidate must ensure that he or she meets the Candidate Eligibility - International Graduate category prior to applying to the AINP.

  5. If all criteria are met, Alberta employer and candidate complete the Employer and Worker Application for a Skilled Occupation (ABPNP 005) for approval of the occupation (Employer Approval). All required supporting documents indicated in the Instructions Checklist must be included.

  6. The International Graduate candidate then completes the Application for Provincial Nomination (ABPNP 003). All required supporting documents indicated in the Instructions Checklist must be included.

  7. Employer and Candidate submit all forms, including required supporting documents, to the AINP for review.

  8. First, the employer eligibility will be reviewed by the AINP. If the employer is approved, the candidate will be reviewed by the AINP. If the candidate is approved, they become a provincial nominee. The AINP will advise the nominee how to proceed with their permanent residence application.

Existing pre-approvals

If an employer has already been approved by the AINP for allocations, and the employee candidate has not yet applied, please note:

  • Employer and Worker Application for a Skilled Occupation (ABPNP 005) substitutes for what was previously called the Guaranteed Job Offer application.

  • Application for Provincial Nomination (ABPNP 003) substitutes for what was previously called the Skilled Worker/Professional application.
