How to apply
To live in Alberta permanently, you must qualify under one of the following immigration categories:
- Skilled workers
If you have a good education, work experience, knowledge of English or French, and other skills, you may be able to become a permanent resident in Alberta.
- Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons
The business immigration program seeks to attract experienced business people to Alberta who will support the development of a strong and prosperous economy. As a business migrant, you will be expected to make a $400,000 investment or to own and manage businesses in Alberta.
- Sponsoring your family
When you arrive in Canada as a permanent resident, you must make every reasonable effort to provide for your own essential needs and those of your family. If you sponsor a relative to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you are responsible for supporting your relative financially when they arrive. As a sponsor, you must make sure that your spouse or relative does not need to seek financial assistance from the government. The process to sponsor your family begins when you, as a citizen or permanent resident in Canada, apply to be a sponsor.
- Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an immigration program designed to attract immigrants who wish to work and live in Alberta. The AINP is operated by the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Employment and Immigration (AE&I) in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and it allows for faster processing of applications for permanent residence in Canada.
